Sinnaih Sivakumar CropSinnaih in Sri Lanka shares the story of his journey to faith in Jesus Christ.

My name is Sinnaih. I am 44 years old and married with three children. My native village is Barathipuram in the Kilinochchi district in the northern province of Sri Lanka. My village was destroyed in 2008 during the civil war. Several thousand lost their lives, and many were missing as the forces in command took them captives.

I worked as a Sri Lanka Police officer until 2003. In 2008, I was abducted by a rebel group that thought I was an informant. I was put in an underground room with no light or ventilation. My captors were ruthless and didn’t have any sense of compassion or mercy. I experienced pain and trauma every single day while in jail.

I was kept in a lonely cell for nearly 19 months. I was given a death sentence, but what happened next was a mystery. One morning, it was very dark; I suddenly saw a beam of light coming into the dark room. A person was carrying a lamp and asked me to come out. He then asked, “Are you a Christian?” I did not answer; he motioned me to come out of the room. Then I was delighted to see the sunlight after many months. I had grown pale and weak. What happened is still a mystery to me; however, I consider it God’s miracle. I was miraculously released from prison. I could not believe or understand what had happened.

I started attending a church. It was the Christmas season, December 2018. The church was conducting a class; they introduced the Project Philip Bible study booklets. Many members had pledged to take part in it. My wife and I also raised our hands, and we both took part in the lessons from the Project Philip Bible study materials. I experienced a sense of love and gratefulness, which I believe is God touching our hearts. My wife and I accepted Jesus a few weeks later. These lessons guided us and taught us about the life that Jesus gave. Now I realize why God saved my life. It seems like a dream to me to be delivered from the prison walls to a new life in Jesus. Thank you, Bible League, for the booklets that have blessed my wife and me.
